And here comes, "yet another period of national day celebration". The day we remember the struggles, sacrifices and success of the long-gone generation. That was the generation that was always ready to give all they could for the advancement of their nation. But what do we have 59 years after their dream was manifested and their struggles paid off? All we have is a nation who's pride lies in overpopulation and past glory, a nation with a failed government and pseudo-democracy, a nation where every election/swearing in is an inauguration of yet another set of pocket-concious politicians. We're left with a nation where tribalism, corruption and terrorism is the order of the day, even the government is already a threat to it's citizens.
But then, in the presence of a failed government, are we just going to fold our hands as citizens and watch the country get worse as the day goes by? OF COURSE NOT! It's time to relive the sacrifices of the long-gone generation, it's time to think more of what we can offer the nation other than what the nation can offer us. We might all be agitating for secession and division but the bitter truth still remains that, for now, Nigeria is all we've got to call our father land.
In the presence of a failed government,it's now left for we citizens to decide the faith and future of the nation through our attitude towards national development. If as citizens we can think more of what we can offer our nation and fulfill our national duties and obligations daily, then one day, even the government will change for the better and Nigeria will move from a "so-called" nation to a *"worth-while"* nation.
Arise O'compatriots, it's time to obey the Nigerian call, to serve our father-land with love, strength and faith, never to allow the labours of our heroes past be in vein. Let's do away with tribalism and religious violence and embrace national patriotism, one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
